History

Celebrating the Montessori Philosophy for 25 Years

Heartwood Montessori School was founded in 1991 by 3-6 teacher, Sue Daniel, 6-9 teacher, Thelma Williams, and office manager, Mary McKinney.  This dedicated group of educators wanted to create a school that followed the Montessori Philosophy in an environment that was a loving, safe place for their students, parents, and teachers alike.

In the 25 years since, Heartwood has continued to place the needs of our students first. We have grown to become a community of roughly 180 students and their families and we pride ourselves on the fulfillment of our founding principles. Our community of teachers, students and parents is very important to us.

Heartwood Montessori’s 25th Anniversary Auction

In the Spring of 2016, Heartwood celebrated our 25th anniversary. We marked the occasion with a party where we raised nearly 20,000 dollars to be used on an upcoming project. Thanks to the generous contributions of Heartwood families and local businesses, we have started construction on a large shelter and outdoor classroom space that wouldn’t have otherwise been possible.

Christina Rose and Katie Hamister photographed the event. To see a full gallery of photos, please click here.

School Resumes Wednesday, January 11

Heartwood will re-open Wednesday, January 11. Please be very careful coming into the building as there are still many places around campus with thick ice.
