  • Upper Elementary Information Night

    February 7, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

The Upper Elementary Information Night is for prospective and current families.

Did you embrace the Montessori philosophy when your child was younger but now find yourself facing an unfamiliar “abstract” curriculum as your child is aging into the Upper Elementary classroom? Or perhaps you’ve noticed that your child is no longer thriving in their traditional school environment and you are exploring ways to better meet their developmental needs?

Join us for our discussion of the Upper Elementary classroom. Discover what makes our classrooms unique! From their open ended, integrated and research driven curriculum to our co-operative, non-competitive culture. The ideas presented during the discussion will be supported with examples of student’s work. If you are a prospective family or have a rising fourth grader, this is an evening you do not want to miss!

Childcare will be available for children ages 3 and older.

    Please RSVP for this event.

  • Middle and High School Information Night

    February 21, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm

This event is for prospective and current families.

Our middle and high school program is growing! You may be surprised to find out that not all of our students have a Montessori background. Many of our older students have come to us with a traditional school background.

Please join us for a question and answer session in which we will explore the many benefits of our program, one of them being the emotional support that it offers our students. Respect between both teachers and students is practiced daily.

Ray and Missy McClure, husband and wife team teachers, are well loved by their students.  They go “above and beyond” by keeping everyone in their “school family” engaged with assignments, as well as practicing peaceful resolution of conflict, group projects, outings, community service, and plenty of laughs.

Childcare will be available for ages 3 and up.

    Please RSVP for this event.

  • Scientific Research of the Montessori Method

    February 27, 2018 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
112 Byrum St, Cary, NC 27511, USA

What is this method we call Montessori? Does it work? How do we know if what we are doing, what we are implementing is benefitting the children? What does the science say? We will explore some recent scientific studies and examine whether a Montessori education is truly beneficial.

Ray has been teaching in a Montessori environment for 16 years, the last 12 years in the Middle and High School programs here at Heartwood. He obtained a Masters of Science degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the field of Mathematical Physics. He has received his Montessori Teaching Certifications for Elementary I and II from the American Montessori Society. In addition to working with children, Ray is an instructor for three teacher training programs; The Center for Montessori Teacher Education of North Carolina, The Center for Guided Montessori Studies, and the Polish Montessori Institute located in Warsaw, Poland, where he has also written and developed the Upper Elementary curriculum for the country.
