PSG Activities at Heartwood Minutes from the Oct. 6, 2009 meeting - download the pdf file here. In an effort to share parenting resources within our Heartwood community, the Parent Awareness Group will meet to discuss books, topics and host guest speakers. All parents are welcome to attend the meetings.
What is the PSG? The PSG is a group of committees made up of parents who volunteer to help organize social and fundraising activities for the Heartwood community. We organize family picnics, Field Days, Book Fairs and other great events bringing the Heartwood families together. There are numerous ways that you can participate in your child's school community. The standing committees of the PSG are:
The Parent Group meets 4 times a year to discuss new and existing activities. ALL Heartwood parents are invited and encouraged to attend these meetings. You do NOT have to volunteer for anything, and we encourage your input on the events of the PSG. For those who choose to commit to certain projects, they attend each meeting to get input and assistance and report on the progress of the event. The PSG is run like many other committees- parents volunteer to head up an activity or event and then enlist other parents to become involved on that Subcommittee, which may meet separately from the PSG. PSG ACTIVITIES FOR 2009/2010
Original Works Fundraiser Heartwood has participated in Original Works as a fundraiser for the past 8 years. Parents have been very pleased with the quality of this program. Children produce artwork, under the direction of our Art teacher, Jayne Cluggish, and their teachers. The artwork can then be reproduced as a variety of products ranging from mugs, aprons, stationary, tiles and much more. Parents have a choice of what, if anything, to order from a catalogue from Original Works. Orders are placed during November and products are delivered in December. We usually are able to raise about $1,000 from this popular program. Scholastic Books Throughout the year, Scholastic Books will be offered for purchasing. Catalogues go home with your child and you can order books all year. A percentage of the proceeds come back to the school by way of credits for teachers to order books. Every year we produce a wonderful Yearbook for the child and their parents. We take pictures all year long, interview the children and try and capture the community of Heartwood. Orders are taken in the spring and the Yearbooks are delivered during the last week of school. The school makes a small profit on the sales of the yearbooks.
If you are interested in volunteering for any of these committees, please contact Vickie Leff at Heartwood vickie@heartwoodmontessori.com. For more information, please go to the subcommittee page: Heartwood Yearbook Committee 2009 How Can You Help? Building and Grounds Commitee: This committee will be working on the outdoor environment all year long. They also provide assistance with improvements and repairs. Contact Kathleen E. or Sue Daniel for information on how you can help out. Social/Hospitality Committee: We would like to have a Wine & Cheese social for Heartwood parents. If anyone has access to a club house or community room that would be suitable, please let us know. We've had these in the past and they are fun. Looking for a few good restaurants! The Social & Hospitality Committee would like to set up some dates throughout the year for Heartwood families to eat out and make a little money on the side. Some restaurants do fund raisers, giving back 5 - 10% of the evening's proceeds. If you have a favorite restaurant that you think would be a great place for families to have dinner and rub elbows, ask them if they are interested in arranging a fundraiser with Heartwood. If they are, let Mary (in the office) know and we'll set it up. Thanks. Please contact Mary McKinney for more information. Yearbook Committee: This Committee will be working on taking digital pictures of the children at work and play at Heartwood. In the winter, editing using Photoshop Elements 5 will begin. We need parents who are interested in taking pictures, editing to help out. Contact Sue if you'd like to work on this. WISH LIST:The PSG can help the school in many ways. Here is a wish list of items the school is loooking for. If you have any of these, please let us know. We are grateful for any and all donations to the school!
